Government Procures $534 Mil. in Russian Weapons

(Source: Korean Information Service; issued Dec. 13, 2002)

Korea agreed to accept $534 million-worth of Russian weaponry as part of the two sides’ efforts to break even on Moscow’s loans from the Seoul government dating back to the early 1990s, the Defense Ministry said on Friday (Dec. 13).

In the second part of the procurement project, code-named “Pulgom,” six kinds of Russian weapons will be introduced to Korea from now until 2006, a ministry spokesman said.

The METIS-M antitank guided missiles, BMP-3 armored vehicles, T-80U tanks, MURENA air cushion landing boats, IL-103 airplanes for cadet exercises and Ka-32A search helicopters will be bought.

Half of the procurement costs, at $267 million, will come from the money Moscow owes to Seoul, and the rest will be paid to Russia in cash.

Unpaid loans by Russia, which it received from South Korea for economic cooperation following the two sides’ forging diplomatic ties, amounts to $1.95 billion, including interest.

“The Navy will use the air cushion landing boasts for infiltration and remote transportation purposes,” said a Defense Ministry official.

The Army will combine use of the T-80U tanks and the 30 BMP-3 vehicles with existing facilities, and the Air Force plans to substitute ageing aircraft with the new IL-103s and Ka-32As.

For the time being, the government has no additional plans to procure Russian weaponry as part of the Pulgom project, the official said.

俄國戰車最大特徵，配備北約戰車更大口徑炮管
減少裝填手，部份油料外帶（減少戰車體積）

南韓之前已經採購一批T-80戰車 ，想必其陸軍隨著戰車引進，
戰術推演有一定心得，況且北韓未有新一代的戰車計劃(指比88式k1A1戰車的更高級)

所以說正確的翻法應該是步兵戰鬥車吧
而非以前那一種APC的時代了....

是音譯還是字譯??

Bronevaya Maschina Piekhota是從俄文Броневая машина пехота的拼音直接翻成英文拼音。按字意翻的話，叫步兵的裝甲車。

據報導，1995年中共已經由俄羅斯購買200 輛T-80U戰車，並有意引進BMP-3 步兵戰鬥車
數量應該是200輛，做為其陸軍的「拳頭部隊」，這是要注意的地方。

T-80U戰車，重46噸，動力1250馬力，馬力比27.2馬力/公噸，時速70公里，巡程335公里，
主砲125mm（39發），雷射導引飛彈9M119（AT-11）6枚。
BMP-3 步兵戰鬥車，重18.7噸，動力500馬力，馬力比26.7馬力/公噸，時速70公里，巡程
600公里，主砲100mm（40發），雷射導引飛彈9M119（AT-11）8枚。
