聽聽台灣的聲音

The failure of Communism and the collapse of Soviet Union finally led Chinese leaders to move away from the Soviet model, and chose a new version of capitalism and more involvement in the global economy. Some people even aruged that the essence of Communism is no longer exist and the Capitalism finally wins.

Here we may have to make a distinction by using a term, ‘post-Tiananmen Square’.
The Tiananmen Square event and the collapse of Soviet Union showed the problem of existence of Communist party. The government needed to find some other way to justify its power and behaviour.

Tiananmen Square event has been regarded as a threat to the Chinese Communist Government and to the value of its existence. Before it, the government ruled the country by its dictatorship and sole power; but people had strong voices to claim for democracy and sharing of power, which the government would not let go. The event was gone out by using military forces to suppress and kill its own people, which had been seen as an abuse to human rights.

The government turned its direction to emphasize on ‘nationalism’, which was really a good tool to keep manipulating its citizens and staying on the top position of power.

We could easily see examples of how Chinese Communist government used nationalism on the media. The economic growth has been portrayed by the government as ‘Chinese all stand up’, and its continuing military threats to Taiwan by asserting that it’s a part of China, which most of Taiwanese did not agree with. The government never stopped its wordy mouth to claim the world leaders to agree with its so-called ‘one-China policy’.

Especially, since the collapse of Soviet Union, which gave the Chinese Communist government a sense and fear of losing its own power, ‘nationalism’ became the most vital tool to keep manipulating its citizens, and seemed nothing else could replace it.

In Taiwan, ‘democracy’ is most treasured and highly portrayed by citizens, media, and all political parties. No individual or any other thing could block the way of its development. However, in China, democracy is just another foreign imposition.

China keep forcing Taiwan to accept its ‘one nation two system’ policy, which it said a successful implementation in Hong Kong. However, what we saw in Hong Kong was a failure and a big lie. In this July, we saw almost over 500,000 Hong Kong citizens protested against Chinese government’s imposed law which brought a big harm to the human rights, democracy and freedom of expression. Both Taiwanese government and citizens already knew that ‘one nation two system’ was just a lie and Chinese government never ever kept its promise, and never stop lying to the whole world.

When the SARS became serious, Taiwan was claiming to join the World Health Organisation, but, China said Taiwan not qualified to join such an international organisation and it lied to the whole world by saying Chinese government had Taiwan covered and took care of Taiwanese. What a big lie! Taiwan overcame the problem of SARS by itself and we took care of our own people; we never saw any assistance from China. During the SARS period, Taiwan was just like an orphan in the world when China and WHO shut their door closed. Shame on China for its big lie. Shame on WHO for losing its sole value of saving human beings from suffering disease. But thanks for Japan and America for supporting Taiwan to join WHO since both these two countries placed the value of human rights on the highest position just like Taiwan.

The most silly thing of the lying was that Chinese Communist government kept saying that it only tried to utilise military force to certain groups of people who claimed for Taiwan independence. Just a simple question here? Do these missiles have eyes so that they could only target on Taiwan independence supporters and not others?? I think even a 3-years-old child could answer this question. So when Chinese government exercised its military force against Taiwan independence supporters, its not a threat only to them but to the whole public of Taiwan.

When I have ever joined some political online forum, some Chinese said Taiwanese were too much influenced by Western countries’ values of democracy, individualism and freedom of expression. But can anyone judge that it’s wrong and by accepting Chinese values is right??? No one can just say accepting Western value is wrong, and accepting your different value is right. This was the way of Taiwan’s development and this was the way of how we grew up. No one can impose his value on us and ask us to reject our values which have long existed in our minds. No one can ask us to go back to your place, because Taiwan is the place we grew up, we lived, and we loved. We preferred to stay right here, this is our Home.

China? Maybe!? for Travelling only~!
